So Ted, are you going to build an outhouse, or bring in a port-a-pot?

Mom and dad had some acerage in the area they grew up in with a campsite on it. They brought in an old WPA toilet (outhouse with a concrete floor and base, and vented). After a day or two, I kind of liked the outdoor feeling when using it. Just dig a deep enough hole.

Okay, So that's what you call those things....  We have one at the local state park at Cordus Lake.  Used it once in the fall after tourism had slowed way down.  Evidentally they had just cleaned it out cause when you sat down to "think" you got a rather cold and unpleasant jet stream blowing up from the toilet....

now that's a WEIRD feeling.  I don't see how anyonwe could like that even Lynn.... Loco

I never got a breeze up my but. You sure there wasn't some other issue like bats trying to leave.

If he comes around once deer season starts (archery opens on Sept 28; general firearms season opens Nov 2), I definitely will be pulling the trigger.

He won't still be in velvet by then. Bucks start rubbing their velvet off in mid Sept.

Around here bucks will turn round shaped brush into hour glass shapes rubbing their velvet off weeks before rifle season starts. Archery season starts one month before, you can still get one in velvet.

Highly unlikely. It’s located at least 400 miles north of the closest point on the Texas - Mexico border.

Would be nice if the big pole you're using for reception was on a pulley system you could drop so it would be less visible.

Ted, that deer... they just don't grow many like that in my neck of the woods.  I guess there are some big ones in the "black belt" and some right on the border with Tennessee.  They don't seem to have the poaching problems we have around here.  Either they don't live long enough to get that big or they get shot at night when it's easier.

I hope he keeps hanging around through deer season! I seldom see bucks of that caliber either so needless to say, I was very excited to see him on my camera. I think we’re benefitting from having some huge acreage ranches surrounding our lease property boundaries that don’t get any hunting pressure, combined with very low human population density in that area.

Location makes a big difference. In SW Ky. where I used to hunt it was sometimes hard to tell deer from cattle in a pasture, versus where I live now, where it's hard to tell deer from dogs.

Those must have been some puny cows.  Even a big mule deer is tiny compared to cows here

Dude! That's bad ass. Walk-in for a hunting cabin. That's going to help keep the heat in, come winter.

Thanks guys! I'm excited to spend some quality time in my "home away from home" this hunting season and more seasons to come in the future!
